Spring is Here
By Danny Watson
Regrettably too many people wait until tomorrow to try to feel better today. Have you ever heard that an object that is in motion has a tendency to stay in motion while one that is not will remain in one spot? I know, I know that Newton guy might have said that. When January comes people will come out of the woodworks and gyms will fill to bursting with new members trying to recapture that image they had of themselves when they were active. People have a habit of acting like bears sometimes. We hibernate in the winter and when the sun comes out we realize we need to shed that winter coat so we can tolerate summer. People that have been going to the gym and getting active because summer is coming have just about lost their motivation at this point. Being in good shape is a state of mind that we can adopt year around not just in the summer time when well people see more of us so to speak. In the South and in our state especially there are large numbers of people with diabetes, heart disease and other ailments that could be mitigated to a great extent by being active. You don’t have to join a gym, a club or even a team of some sort to stay in shape. It’s about doing a little more today than you did yesterday. Take the stairs today instead of using the elevator. Walk to the mailbox versus driving out to it in your car. Take a walk, ride a bike just do something active. Most people don’t go to see the doctor yearly but they will have the oil changed in their car every three thousand miles. You don’t feel well go to the doctor and find out why. If you want to feel better and live longer get off of the couch and be a part of life. Those series that are on Netflix will be right where you left them when you get back home. There are so many things in life that people can help you with. The one thing that no one can help you with is your decision to live better and live longer. Any fool can tell you that if you eat badly and never exercise you are shortening your life span. Not only are you shortening your life span you are destroying the quality of life that you could have if you chose to take care of yourself. Spring is here, let this spring be not only the renewal of nature but the renewal of your commitment to live better and live longer.
