Deacon Carl Goodson, county historian Brian Gandy and state Rep. Robert Williams were among those who turned out Friday for the dedication of an historical marker at Round O Missionary Baptist Church on Society Hill Road. The event was organized by WeGOJA Foundation, the S.C. African-American Heritage Commission and the church, whose history goes back to the 1880s. “Souls have been saved” here, Goodson said. The church’s name is believed to derive from a plantation called Round O, and also from the O-shaped parcel of land it was sited on. PHOTOS BY BOBBY BRYANT
