Roosevelt and Cheveron Scott elected to International Elks Offices

DARLINGTON, SC – Roosevelt Scott and Judge Cheveron T. Scott have been elected to international offices for the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World (IBPOEW) during the organization’s recent convention held in Jacksonville, Florida.

Judge Cheveron T. Scott was elected to the second highest office in the organization as the Grand Leading Knight (International 1st Vice President). In this office, Judge Scott is responsible for assisting the Grand Exalted Ruler (International President) in the performance of his duties and assist in carrying out the charitable missions of the organization. Roosevelt Scott was re-elected as a Grand Trustee and has served in that office since 1991. The Grand Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the physical assets of the organization were maintained and that innovated leadership practices were used.

“I think we work well as a team and I am making sure that Cheveron understands the extensive history of our Order to help guide him to be a more effective leader,” said Roosevelt Scott. “As a father, I’m proud that he is continuing our family’s legacy and more importantly that he is becoming a well-respected leader in our Order. He is incredibly knowledgeable about procedure and protocol and this is not only a proud moment for me but all of South Carolina to have the number two person in Elks for the whole world.”

Cheveron T. Scott stated “it is unique for a father and son to hold elected offices at this level at the same time. My father has been my inspiration, and I look forward to working with him (along with all of the other international officers) to make a positive difference in the lives of children, youth, seniors, and veterans here in Darlington and across the nation.”

The Scotts have been actively involved in the IBPOE of W at the local, state and national levels with a focus on increasing community involvement through annual events. Every first weekend in October, their local Lodge, Pee Dee United Elks Lodge #1679 (along with Excelsior Temple #790) hold their annual Elk’s weekend festivities (October 5-6). This year’s festivities will include a community dance, parade, and a free old-fashioned Lodge cookout after the parade featuring barbecue, chicken, hot dogs, and games for the children.

The Improved Protective Order of Elks of the World is a fraternal organization dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children, youth, seniors, veterans, and others less fortunate in our communities, primarily through benevolent contributions, volunteer services, and broad-base collaborative community initiatives; and to assist those less fortunate in achieving their highest potential, complete their education, and become positive society contributors by providing committed volunteers, national leadership, and standards of excellence.
