Road dedicated to McKelvey

On Thursday, December 22nd, Former SC House Majority Leader Jay Lucas and SC Rep. Robert Williams hosted a road dedication on Cashua Ferry Road near McLeod Darlington for the James “Jimmy” McKelvey Memorial Highway. Mr. McKelvey was instrumental in Emergency Services for Darlington County which included serving as a charter member of the Darlington Firemen Rescue Squad (1954), Emergency Medical Service Coordinator (1974; developed Ambulance Service for the County), Emergency Preparedness Director and served on the 911 Planning Commission and assumed operations management of the countywide system. In addition, after his retirement, he served as a consultant for other counties throughout the state as they developed emergency management services.
