On Saturday, Sept. 3rd, the Piggly Wiggly in Lamar hosted a Customer Appreciation Day for the community. Located at 100 Railroad Avenue, the only grocery store in Lamar is owned and operated by Warren Jeffords, a longtime resident who also owns Jeffords Insurance Company.

The event offered grilled hot dogs with all the toppings, other snacks, desserts and drinks, as well as music provided by DJ Herb Thompson and a contest to win a large deluxe ice cooler.

Jeffords explained how long he’s been interested in the store, “I’ve always been involved with Piggly Wiggly since its inception. “A few of us got together and sold some stock and got it going back in the 1980s.”

When asked how he decided to buy the store, Jeffords stated, “About two and a half years ago, I got more involved. It wasn’t doing so well then. But, with the people of Lamar supporting us, we’re making a comeback.”

Jeffords explained his plans for the future, “We’re doing some small things along and along. We’ve got new produce coolers ordered now so, sometime in the latter part of this year and 2023 we’ll be renovating the entire produce department.”

Jeffords gave a lot of credit to his staff also, “What makes this store run is the people in it. We’ve got a great crew. They all work together and I appreciate all that they do. We’ve also got a great meat department now. If anyone needs fresh meat, Tim Tadlock and his crew do a wonderful job back there,” he said.
