More than 200 candidates attend School District’s Countywide hiring event
DARLINGTON, S.C. – In what marked a hugely successful venture, the Darlington County School District (DCSD) attracted 207 prospective employees Saturday, March 4, for its largest-ever hiring event. Mayo High School for Math, Science, and Technology hosted the event, which saw interested candidates from four different states.
Every DCSD school and department was represented. More than a dozen certified teachers earned job offers “on the spot” following interviews. The district expects to hire another 30 teacher candidates from the event following reference checks.
When asked how the event came about, Chuck Miller, Executive Director of Human Resources for Darlington County School District said, “We really wanted to tap into local talent, within driving distance. This is a common thing that many districts do. At the moment, we have 14 vacancies but, this is the time of year when there are transfers and retirements. So, we are predicting around 62 vacancies soon.” Audrey Childers, DCSD Communications Director stated, “It’s not just current positions. We’re gathering a pool of resumes so that we can also fill future positions as they come open.”
DCSD Superintendent Dr. Tim Newman stated, “This is common throughout the state but, Darlington County has not done this in a while.”
The driving effort for the hiring event came from DCSD’s Human Resources Department. Of the 207 candidates, more than 100 were certified educators interested in learning about working in Darlington County.
DCSD is the highest paying district in the Pee Dee for teachers and strives to create a welcoming environment focused on creating successful outcomes for students.
