Martha Jane Pope Godley, age 71, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. A visitation was held on Sunday, September 18 in the Lamar Chapel of Belk Funeral Home at 1:00 until 3:00, a graveside service followed in Lamar Cemetery.
Martha was born on November 13, 1950 in Darlington County. She was the daughter of the late Laverne Pope and Lila Mae Jones Pope. Martha worked in the shipping department of Nucor for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, and most importantly her family.
Martha is survived by her husband, John Richard “Dick” Godley, Daughters, Kim (Romeo) Rivas of Darlington, “Charlie” Charlotte (Steve) Austin of Savannah, GA, Marisa Barretine of Savannah, GA, son, Sean Godley of Knoxville, Tennessee, grandchildren; Savannah Nikolakakos, Isabelle Rivas, Jessica Godley, Stevie Jayne Austin, great-grandchildren; Braden, Michael, and David, siblings: Vermelle Parnell, Edward (Millie) Pope, Luke Pope, Dorsey Pope, Roland Pope, Gerald (Sarah) Pope, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Jennings Pope, Janice Odom, Jake Pope, Laverne “June Bug” Pope, Richard Pope, Elaine P. Williams, and Faye P. Knotts.
