Man, woman arrested for $5K card theft

Hartsville police recently arrested a 51-year-old woman and a man, charging them with exploiting an elderly man and stealing $5,000 using his debit card.

Abigail Ruth Price, of Hartsville, and Carlos Johnson Mack each face charges of exploitation of a vulnerable adult, financial transaction fraud exceeding $500, and criminal conspiracy. Both suspects were booked into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center on Friday, with bond set at $25,000 apiece.

According to arrest warrants, Price and Mack were entrusted with the elderly man’s debit card to buy groceries and diapers from Walmart, as the man is unable to shop due to his age. Instead, the pair allegedly misused the card, with Mack reportedly stealing approximately $1,100 and Price nearly $4,000.

The fraudulent transactions occurred over several months, spanning from May 4 to October 22, police documents reveal. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
