Local groups sponsor Countdown to Kindergarten
Hartsville’s newest non-profit organization, And Still We Rise, in collaboration with First Steps of South Carolina, EdVenture Children’s Museum, the City of Hartsville, Duke Energy, Healthy Blue, the Genesis Community Foundation and Hartsville Household of Faith will sponsor the COUNTDOWN TO KINDERGARTEN Celebration, Friday, August 5, 2022, 5:00-7:00 pm in downtown Hartsville. The celebration will include free entry to the museum, free food, mobile arcade, bounce houses, vision screenings, hearing screening, dental check-up and free haircuts. Families in Darlington and Lee Counties with children entering 4K or 5K are encouraged to attend the celebration.
And Still We Rise was founded by the descendants of Marvell and James “Buck” Harriot in December 2021. Rooted in Hartsville, SC, the intimacy of such a small village unveiled the large impact service and devotion can have within our communities, And Still We Rise harnesses the family’s collective appetite to serve. Our immediate pastpatriarch, James “Buck” Harriot was a small business owner during the time when African American entrepreneurs were confronted by the daily humiliation of the Jim Crow law. Buck’s courage, resilience, and strength of character smothered the humiliation and strengthened the idea that our family deserved economic equality. Our organization will honor Buck Harriot’s hard work and dedication by continuing to usher our community towards economic equality.
