Tenants of Washington Square say, “Shame on you” to elected officials in Darlington

The Washington Square Tenant Association would like to express their displeasure with the elected officials of the City of Darlington during the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew namely Mayor Gloria Hines, Councilpersons Elaine Reed, Carolyn Bruce and County Councilperson Elect Joyce Thomas. During the last election we saw you almost on a daily basis, now in the aftermath of one of the worst storms the state of South Carolina has seen in decades, we have not seen nor heard a single word or seen your face. We would like express our disgust with this and are deeply hurt by it. If it had not been for the management company, Mansermar Incorporated, the tenants would have truly suffered during the loss of electrical service. Our community consists of those individuals that are 62 years or older and the physically handicapped and have limited resources. As of October 12, 2016 the day this letter was written, we have yet to see any of these elected officials. We have seen the Darlington Police, Water, Street and Sanitation Departments however they are not elected officials seeking our votes; we appreciate their concern for our welfare. We are tired of the lack of concern for the elderly citizenship of Darlington and will make our voices heard during the next election. We gave you our votes in good faith and trusted you to represent us. In your time of need during the last election, you brought us hot dogs, barbeque, fish fries and cold drinks – however in our time of need during the storm, you did not even offer a visit to see if we were okay. Shame on you.

President – Laurie Fields
Treasurer – Rudene Morton
