John C. “Johnny” Frey

John C. “Johnny” Frey, 67, of Darlington died on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 2 PM at First Church of God in Darlington. Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6 until 8 PM on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Johnny was born on August 27, 1954. He was the son of the late Lucille Carter Frey. He was raised in Florence and graduated from Southside High School. He then went to work in the family business, Darlington Shredding, and worked there until he retired a few years ago. Johnny had an entrepreneurial spirit. He was instrumental in the formation of other businesses which included DSI Metals, A&C Recycling, E&C Recycling and S&P Container Service.
Johnny was a longtime member of the church family at The First Church of God in Darlington. Over the years he served as an usher and greeter. His family was also very important to him. Johnny was a family man. He was interested in everything his family was doing and he wanted to be a part of it.
Surviving are his wife, Tay West Frey of Darlington; his daughters and their families, Carrie Frey Perkins and her children Carter and Cayden, and Kip, and Ashleigh Frey Shelley and husband, Scott and their children Emma, Jack, and Owen; His Father and Mother in Law, Freddie and Martha West; his nephew, Jake Mims and wife Casie; his nieces, Wendy McKenzie and Melissa Edwards and husband, Frank; his sisters-in-law, Martha Frey and Tonda Weaver; two special friends, Stephanie Galloway and Freddie Hall.
Johnny was preceded in death by his brother, Benny Frey; his sister, Helen Bush; and his brother-in-law, Danny Weaver.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Johnny to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.givenow.lls.org).
