Hartsville woman now facing murder charges

A Hartsville woman is now facing murder charges in the 2021 shooting death of her boyfriend, authorities said.

Cassandra Jacqueline Escobar originally was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Caleb James, 18. Escobar had originally told investigators that James accidentally shot himself while playing with a gun May 13.

However, the Darlington County Grand Jury indicted her for murder last week, according to reports. Jail records show she was booked into the county jail Feb. 17 and released on $25,000 bond two days later.
