An April 25 fire destroyed a salvage shop in Darlington County, along with two outbuildings, a mobile home, a carport and about a dozen junk cars, officials said.
Thomas Spivey, chief of the Palmetto Rural Fire Department, said Spence’s Salvage at 2161 Anderson Farm Road was wrecked in the 10:40 p.m. fire. No injuries were reported.
Spivey said it took firefighters about four hours to deal with the blaze. He said the fire apparently began when someone was charging a battery to run a pallet of electrical tools and the battery shorted out.
