Fatal collision in Darlington County
A collision between a truck and an automobile claimed the life of a Florence man. S.C. Highway Dept. and the Darlington County Coroner report that a crash occurred on I-20 westbound at the 136 mile marker, near the Timmonsville exit at around 8:30 P.M. on November 22, 2022.
Two vehicles were involved and 1 fatality resulted.
The driver of a 2017 Nissan Ultima was traveling westbound on I-20 when a 2015 International Tractor Trailer, traveling eastbound, crossed the median and struck the Nissan in the westbound lanes. The operator of the Nissan Ultima, Nickolas Joseph Allen Smith, 38 years old, was declared deceased on the scene by Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The incident is under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol and the Coroner.
