Hartsville resident Justin Evans, who describes himself as an entrepreneur who has worked with three S.C. governors, has put up a website announcing he will run for mayor of Hartsville. Incumbent Mel Pennington will not seek another term. Evans’ website (justinevans.com) says he has spent “nearly two decades working with every level of government, from volunteering on the local level, to serving three different S.C. governors, to working with the president and vice president of the United States and the Office of Advance.” The site says Evans grew up in Hartsville and moved back there with his wife six years ago. Evans has launched and operated several small businesses, according to the website. “An entrepreneur himself,” Evans plans to “make it as easy as possible” for businessmen to work with the city. He also promises to focus on public safety. The nonpartisan election for mayor is in November. Also running is businessman Jordan Flowers.
