DCSO arrests former Officer for Contraband, Misconduct

Pierre Gardner Sr.

A former corrections officer at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center was arrested this week following an investigation into contraband smuggling at the facility, according to Darlington County officials.

Pierre Gardner Sr. faces charges of Prohibited Contraband and Misconduct after his arrest on March 17, the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Sheriff August emphasized that his department maintains a zero-tolerance policy for lawbreakers, regardless of their position within the department.

Sheriff August said there are no exceptions for those who violate the law, including his own staff.

The Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with Major Stanley and the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office to combat contraband smuggling at the detention center. Officials have pledged to prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law in an ongoing effort to deter such activities.

Authorities have not yet released details about the specific contraband items involved in the case or when Gardner’s employment with the detention center ended.
