David Vaughan

Darlington, SC — David F. Vaughan, 74, of Darlington died Saturday, July 23, 2022.
Mr. Vaughan was born in Darlington, a son of the late Wilbur Hazel and Gladys Siskron Vaughan. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Youth Leader, Church Clerk, and Trustee. He was a former Recreation Director for the City of Darlington and a Banker in Darlington and the Pee Dee.
He was also associated with Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home for over fifty years. Mr. Vaughan was the Past President of the St. John’s High School Booster Club, Charter member of The Billie Hardee Home for Boys Board of Directors, St. Johns High School Key Club Advisor for twenty eight years and more recently Advisor for the Mayo Magnet School and the Darlington High School Key Clubs, Kiwanis Administrator of Key Clubs for North and South Carolinas.
Past President of the Darlington Kiwanis Club, Past Lieutenant Governor of the Carolinas Kiwanis District, International Convention Tour Chairman for the Carolinas District Key Club, Secretary-Treasurer for the Carolinas District Kiwanis Past Lieutenant Governors Council, Past Governor of the Carolinas Kiwanis District, a member of American Legion Post 13, a former member of the Pee Dee Advisory Board for The Salvation Army, former Executive Director of the Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Darlington Housing Authority, and a former member of the Darlington Historical Landmarks Commission.
He was a member of the Darlington Veterans Memorial Planning Committee and a volunteer at the Darlington County Free Medical Clinic.
Mr. Vaughan was named the “2013 Citizen of the Year” by The Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce. He received St. Johns High School Citizenship Award, The Jaycee’s Distinguished Service Award, Honorary member of the Carolinas District Key Clubs, Key of Honor recipient, which the highest honor bestowed by Key Club International, Kiwanis George F. Hixson Fellowship, Kiwanis Legion of Honor, Kiwanis International Tablet of Honor, the Carl Hyatt Kiwanis Fellowship, the Kiwanis District Foundation1200 Founders Circle, Kiwanis International Walter Zellar Fellowship and the Kiwanis International Sponsored Youth Award.
Surviving are one brother and sister in law, Wilbur and Donna Bryant Vaughan of Darlington; one niece, Laura E. (Scott) Gauger; one nephew, Richard C. Vaughan, both of Florence; his extended family Terry K. Gettys and his family of Clermont Ferrand, France.

The funeral was held at Graveside, Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 2 PM at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday, July 27, 2022 beginning at 6 PM at The Grand Old Post Office, 201 Pearl Streets, Darlington, SC. There will be tributes to David by a few of his friends.
