On Thursday, September 28, 2023, Darlington witnessed a heartwarming display of unity and community at the Darlington Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on Pearl Street. This gathering marked another successful Darlington Together lunch meeting, an initiative founded with a noble purpose: to unite the races in Darlington and eliminate racism in our community.

The meeting was presided over by the charismatic and passionate founder of Darlington Together, Linda Beckham. Her message, “Neighbors helping neighbors,” resonated deeply with the attendees, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and mutual support in fostering a more inclusive community.

One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was the strain on our local teachers. Beckham shed light on the challenges faced by overworked educators and highlighted the pressing need for volunteers in our schools. This issue struck a chord with the attendees, prompting a spirited discussion on ways to support our schools better.

The heart of the meeting, however, revolved around ideas to bring different races and cultures together. Attendees brainstormed a plethora of creative solutions, including the formation of a community chorus that would celebrate our diversity through music and cultural exchange. Book clubs were also proposed as a means to engage in open dialogues and promote understanding among diverse groups.

Rev. Kevin Cauley, Pastor of Darlington Presbyterian Church, took the stage to discuss a a Ministerial Alliance. This alliance would aim to bring together black and white pastors and their congregations, fostering a spiritual connection that transcends racial boundaries.

The lunch meeting served as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path towards a more harmonious and inclusive community. As Linda Beckham reminded us all, by joining hands as neighbors, we can overcome the challenges of the present and build a brighter, more united future for Darlington. With each gathering, Darlington Together takes another step towards its mission, proving that unity can indeed conquer all.
