Darlington man on trial for stepmother’s murder
This week, Steven Samuel is on trial at the Darlington County Courthouse, charged with the murder of his stepmother, Vivian Bess. The incident occurred in May 2021 at Bess’s residence on Cain Street in Darlington. According to Breanna Graham, Bess’s daughter, her mother passed away in her arms after being discovered barely breathing on the floor of their home. Samuel is acting as his own attorney during the trial, though lawyer Jay Ervin is available to provide assistance if necessary. A jury has been selected, and testimony is set to continue this morning.
