Darlington man arrested after shooting at Florence lounge

A shooting on Saturday morning, March 11, 2023, at a Florence County nightclub, resulted in the death of one person. The incident occurred at Lava Lounge, located at 1928 West Sumter Street in Florence. During an altercation at the club, gunfire began. The victim was shot and taken to the hospital, where they died later.
Darlington County resident Javon Smith, 45 years old, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. According to the coroner’s office, the victim has been identified as Dakyas Riyun Belser, 22 of Florence. Smith was being held at the Florence County Detention Center.
