Darlington installs fountain

On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, Darlington Mayor Curtis Boyd, Water/Sewer Dept. employees, some City Council members and other interested citizens gathered on Pearl Street to celebrate the installation of the new fountain on the lot near Subway. Mayor Boyd put money into the project and initiated it along with Sam Evans, the City of Darlington and the Darlington Water Department. Water/Sewer Director Charles Shugart and his staff did a wonderful job with the installation. Approximately 1,000 bricks were used as a base for the foundation of the structure. Another 200 bricks were needed just for the base bowl of the fountain. The pump is encased in a stone housing, the water reservoir has a double liner and it took 4 men just to place the bottom bowl. This is only the beginning of this project. Some grading and landscape work needs to be done and there are plans to build a solid pad (asphalt or concrete) for chairs, picnic tables, etc. Turf will also be put down to create a beautiful and peaceful sitting area for citizens and visitors.
