Darlington County man gets 30 years for manslaughter
A Darlington County man has been sentenced to 30 years for manslaughter in the 2020 death of a Hartsville man, says 4th Circuit Solicitor Will Rogers.
Rogers said Cabanough McPhail, 56, pleaded guilty March 23 to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
The incident occurred in Darlington County July 18, 2020, when McPhail allegedly killed Najmah McDaniel, 32, of Hartsville. McPhail and McDaniel were at a house gathering with family and friends when McPhail, “while grossly intoxicated,” began arguing with McDaniel.
McPhail fired one shot and fled the scene, but was apprehended within 24 hours by the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, Rogers said. McPhail was sentenced by Judge Paul Burch to a negotiated sentence of 30 years.
