Daniel “Danny” Herbert Coker

Daniel “Danny” Herbert Coker, 78, of Darlington passed away on Wednesday October, 12, 2022. The family received visitors on Saturday October 15th, 2022 at Belk Funeral Home from 1 to 2pm. The funeral followed in the Belk Chapel at 2pm with burial following at Darlington Memory Gardens.
Danny was born December 23, 1943 in Florence, SC, to parents Herbert and Earline McElveen Coker. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School where he excelled in baseball, basketball, and football. He was offered a scholarship to play football at University of SC. He chose to instead join the LA Dodger Minor League Organization. He also played minor league baseball for the Kansas City Athletics. Danny was an avid golfer, playing every chance he got.
Danny worked at Nucor Steel for many years and was then a salesman in the steel industry. As a salesman in the industry, he lived in different places all over the country. He retired earlier this year from FRC Global. Mr. Coker once held the position of President of The Electric Metal Makers Guild. He also served in the South Carolina National Guard. Danny attended First Church of God.
Surviving are his son, Spence Coker of Darlington, daughter, Trudie Coker (Hal) Goodson. His grandchildren, Hayes Goodson and Coleman Goodson and his fiancée Monica. His sister Ellen Coker McNelly of Glen Allen, VA. Also his loving companion Deborah Godwin. He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Earline McElveen Coker.
