Cypress Adventures, Inc., has been awarded a $59,000 grant from Power:Ed, the philanthropic arm of the SC Student Loan Corporation, to expand its Youth Leadership Program in Darlington County. This 14-week afterschool program equips middle and high school students with essential life and leadership skills such as communication, team building, and critical thinking. The initiative also offers experiential education and adventure-based activities like camping, hiking, and canoeing, fostering resilience, civic engagement, and career exploration.

The program, free to local students, aims to bridge income disparities and promote social and emotional learning in one of South Carolina’s most racially unequal cities. “The ripple effect of these funds expands beyond the youth we serve to their families, classrooms, and the broader community,” said Aimee Cox-King, Founder and Executive Program Director of Cypress Adventures. Power:Ed Executive Director Claire Gibbons expressed pride in supporting the initiative for a second year, calling it a life-changing opportunity for students.

Power:Ed, committed to enhancing education and career readiness, plans to award $1 million in grants in FY2024-25. This quarter, the organization has allocated $254,000 across six nonprofits, including Cypress Adventures, to support programs that empower South Carolina’s youth to succeed academically and professionally.

Cypress Adventures, Inc., is located at 881 Loblolly Lane in Hartsville.
