Carolina Sandhills Refuge to host Hunter Education Course
Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge will host a Hunter Education Course on Saturday, September 19, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The course will be taught by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) at the refuge office, located at 23734 Hwy 1, three miles north of McBee, SC.
Hunter education is not just for youth and not just for hunters—it’s for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and values conservation. The program is also an excellent refresher for experienced hunters. All residents and non-residents born after June 30, 1979 must complete a hunter education course before obtaining a hunting license.
Course Requirements:
• Pre-registration is required online: Follow this link Event – South Carolina Hunter Education Class – September 19, 2026 in McBee, SC or visit the SCDNR Hunter Education page and search by ZIP code 29101.
• Bring snacks and drinks—the class will continue through lunch.
• Recommended for motivated students 12 years and older with good reading and comprehension skills (materials are at a 6th-grade reading level).
• Children 10 and older may take the final exam; younger children are welcome to attend but cannot take the test.
• Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• The course is free, but space is limited to 25 students.
