Allison Hodges: “I’m ready to build my dream career”
Editor’s Note: Along with the women we feature who are currently working in male-dominated industries, we are featuring female students at the Darlington County Institute of Technology who are taking classes in some of those same fields. DCIT staff has provided the biographies and photos of these students to us. We extend special thanks for Robbie Smith and Aurelia Burgess at DCIT for partnering with us on this project.
Allison Hodges is building her future the right way. As an engineering student at the Darlington County Institute of Technology (DCIT), she understands the importance of a strong foundation. Realizing the importance of the whole high school experience, she has strong grades and extracurricular activities. At the end of the 2017 school year, she had a 4.421 GPA and was ranked 3rd in her graduating class. Additionally, she is a member of the Beta club, the Academic challenge team, Prom committee and Student council.
During the afternoon, she attended DCIT to take Engineering Design, which she enjoyed because she said that it strengthened her math and drawing skills. Her instructor Daniel Woods said, “Allison is a talented student who applies herself to any task she attempts. She is an excellent student in my class and has a lot of the skills that are needed to pursue a successful career in engineering. Allison does an outstanding job in drawing free hand sketches that could help her in engineering and/or in pursuing a career in art.”
After high school, Allison plans to go to Pensacola Christian College to take medical classes to become a Psychotherapist. Allison says “the reason I chose Engineering over Health Science at DCIT is because I wanted those basic skills from engineering to help me design and construct my own healthcare building.”
Engineering Design has shown her how to take basic measurements and the starting process of designing buildings.
Allison wants to go to college for Psychotherapy to help teens and children through their problems. Growing up she didn’t have the best childhood. She had to grow up fast because of situations and depression. Consequently, Allison decided at a young age that she would do whatever she could to help other young people to never have to go through what she had to alone.
“With the knowledge I’ve gained with engineering, I’m ready to pursue my plans to build and own my dream career.”
