Racers from the Fireball Run Adventurally reality competition show really put the ‘drag’ in Darlington Dragway as they ventured into town Sep. 30 for a challenge stage which required them to don drag clothing and makeup and pilot their cars down the quarter-mile track at the “House of Speed.”

Darlington Dragway manager Ronnie Siders says that while a regulation dragster with soft compound tires can make the run in under four seconds, the Fireballers’ street cars were hampered by their hard compound street tires, which meant their runs were at least ten to fifteen seconds slower.

Still, the racers seemed to have a good time and laughed their way through the challenge. Aside from the thrill of competition, the race serves to raise awareness about missing and exploited children, with Fireballers prominently displaying pictures and information about missing children on their vehicles.

According to Holly Beaumier, Director of the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau, the event was a success.
”In speaking with the other cities that have hosted FIREBALL RUN, the series that will be released next year could be the most coverage Florence has ever had,” said Beaumier. “I’m very thankful for all the 250 volunteers that helped out during the live filming event.”

“Florence and the surrounding areas really showed their support during the 2015 Fireball Run: Space Race,” said Darlington native, Corey Wallace. “As soon as we rolled into Florence it was evident that the community and businesses were excited and in full support of us. That evening every single team came to us saying how impressed they were with Florence, the venues, and the turnout. There was a resounding agreement that it was the best stop thus far. Both professionally and personally it was one of my proudest moments.”

Wallace is the General Manager, GC, KoN of the Hampton Inn & Suites-Florence/North.
