Walter McKnight

Walter Reese McKnight, age 79, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018. A memorial service was held 5 p.m. Friday, January 19th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends following the service.

Born June 18, 1938, Walter is the son of the late Reese McKnight and Ethel Cassidy McKnight. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and in the Navy. He worked at Clanton’s Auto Sales, was owner and operator of McKnight’s Auto Glass and Body Shop, and then worked at Darlington Raceway. He was a talented fisherman, hunter, and golfer. Walter was a member of the American Legion, and the VFW. He was a Shriner, a Freemason, and was a member of many hunting clubs.

Surviving are his wife, Doti M. McKnight of Darlington; his son, Walter Ryan (Melissa) McKnight of Charleston; his daughter, Misi King (Vince) Monterosso of Darlington; his grandchildren, John “Jace” Austin Cox and Jonah Ellis Cox; his brother Wesley McKnight of Darlington; his sisters, Faye McGuigan of Florence, Carolyn “Sissy” Schwichtenberg of Orangeburg, and Bettie Foster of Florence; his brother-in-law, Gary (Lisa) Michell of Florida; his sister-in-law, Diana (Mike) Tanner of Florence, Janie (Sam) McClung of Tennessee, and Tammy Peterson of Darlington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; a special nephew, Gil (Dede) McKnight; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Irene, Jim, Willis, Ernest, and Bill.

Consolacion “Ching” Lazaro Corpuz

Consolacion “Ching” Lazaro Corpuz, age 81, died peacefully at home after a short illness Wednesday, January 17, 2018. A memorial service was held in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2 p.m. Officiated by a special friend and Pastor Dee Bulante. The family received friends following the service at Belk Funeral Home. The family also received friends at other times at the home of Cielo and Marshall Boice at 118 N. Spain Street in Darlington.

Born February 22, 1936 in Manila, Philippines, she is the daughter of the late Gabriel S. and Soledad Duque Lazaro. Mrs. Corpuz was a schoolteacher who loved children and valued their education. She was loved by all of her family from the Philippines and here in Darlington, where she has lived the past five years.

Surviving are her daughters, Cielo (Marshall) Boice of Darlington, Christine (Nathan) Burnsides of San Diego, CA and her siblings: Virgilio Lazaro and Leticia Gonzalez.

James Minton

James D. Minton, age 88, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 20th at Newman Swamp Southern Methodist Church in Lamar, SC. The family received friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar. A graveside service took place Monday at Florence National Cemetery.

Born February 8, 1929 in Obion, Tennessee, James is the son of the late Fisher Minton and Emma Lea Nichols Minton. He served in the United States Air Force, and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service while continuing to serve in the United States Air Force Reserves for over 30 years. James was a member of Gideons International and Newman Swamp Southern Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He also served as a board member and treasurer of the Eastern Annual Conference of the Southern Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Dale B. Minton of Darlington; his children, James D. Minton Jr, Tammy (Asa) Lynne Minton Gitter of Los Angeles, California, and Neil (Stacey) Minton of Florence; his grandchildren, Riley James Minton and Lola Grace Minton. Always surrounded by his loving animals, surviving are Shelbe, Stinker, Maggie and his grandkitties, Moonstone and Opal.

Kenneth Randall Williamson

Kenneth Randall Williamson, 46, of Darlington died Tuesday, January 2, 2018. A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 512 Swift Creek Road, Hartsville, SC. The family received friends following the service. All services are being directed by the family.

Kenneth was born in Florence, SC. His parents are Dwight and Carolyn Williamson. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Rhonda Williamson, his son, Corey Williamson of Darlington and his stepdaughter, Jessica (Nick) Ison of Hartsville, his two brothers, Scott (Julie) Williamson of Florence, and Marty Williamson of Darlington, his sister Nicole (Steve) Gibson of Florence, and two grandchildren, Blakely Ison and Kyle Ison of Hartsville. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, two special aunts, Pat Barnhill and Judith Lambert of Darlington, his grandfather Rev. R.J. Lambert of Darlington and father and mother -in-law Rev. Alvin and Gwen Rogers of Hartsville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Children’s Fund, First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 512 Swift Creek Rd., Hartsville, SC.

Cremation services are being handled by Kistler Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.

Randy Brown Sr

Randy Jay Brown, Sr., age 66, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 18th at Temple Free Will Baptist Church, with burial following in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Born March 10, 1951, Randy is the son of the late J.D. Brown and Lillian “Bill” Player Brown. He retired from Galey and Lord after 37 years. He enjoyed NASCAR, USC football, riding around on his Carolina Gamecock golf cart, fishing, and he loved spending time with his family. Randy was a member of Temple Free Will Baptist Church in Darlington.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Darlene Flowers Brown; his sons, Jay Brown and Chris Brown, both of Darlington; his grandchildren, Xzavia Brown and Rhumer Brown; one great-grandchild, Kingston Johnson; his sister, Janice B. Suggs of Hartsville; his brother, Jimmy Brown of Kingstree; and his canine companions Gracie and Prince. He was preceded in death by an infant brother.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Belk Funeral Home.

Theron L. DeWitt Jr.

Theron L. DeWitt, Jr., age 74, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, January 19th at Pisgah United Methodist Church, with burial following at the church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Theron was a 1966 graduate of Clemson University, earning an Agricultural Engineering degree. He was passionate about Clemson University, and was a long time member of IPTAY. Theron served as commissioner for Darlington Soil Conservation for 44 years. He served the Darlington Farm Bureau in many capacities including president. He was a long time member of Darlington Kiwanis Club, receiving Legion of Honor. Theron was a faithful member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Wesley Sunday School class and served on many committees at the church over many years. He had two grandsons who affectionately called him “Sir” and Sir loved attending all their sporting events.

Theron was the son of the late Theron L. DeWitt, Sr. and Elma Lee Moore DeWitt. Surviving are his wife, Sharon S. DeWitt; his sons, Michael (Marry Anne) DeWitt of Lexington and David (Emery) DeWitt of Darlington; his grandchildren, Allen DeWitt and Kemp DeWitt of Darlington; his brother, Alvin (Betty) DeWitt; his sister, Joanne Sharpe of Durham, NC; and his brother-in-law, Henry Hoffmeyer of Hendersonville, NC. He is preceded in death by his sister, Polly Hoffmeyer.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 18th at Belk Funeral Home, and other times at 2036 Timmonsville Hwy. Darlington.

Bobby Stevens

Bobby D. Stevens, age 69, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Columbia, SC. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Monday, January 22nd in the Lamar chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following in Lamar Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Born December 27, 1948, Bobby is the son of the late David E. Stevens and Beatrice W. Stevens. He worked as a journeyman pipefitter with Atlantic Group. He loved the USC Gamecocks and Lamar football. Bobby was a member of Lexington Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Kathleen “Kathy” Reyes Stevens; his son, Collin Stevens; his daughter, Melissa Stevens, both of Lexington; his granddaughter, Vivian Kathrine Stevens; his siblings, Willis Stevens, Junior Bell, both of Lamar, Marshall (Anne) Stevens, Marcene (Charles) Lane of Florence, and Darlene (Paul) Lawrence of Douglasville, GA.

Bobby was preceded in death by his brothers, Heyward Stevens, E.C. Stevens, and Johnny Stevens.

Glenn Chestnut

Willie Glenn Chestnut, loving husband, father, son, brother and friend went home to be with his Lord. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 21st at Darlington Presbyterian Church, with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born in Galivants Ferry, SC, he was the son of the late Marvin Benjamin Chestnut and Agnes Johnson Chestnut. He was educated in the public schools of Horry County and graduated from Aynor High School in 1981. He served in the US Army. He was a graduate of the South Carolina Police Academy and joined the South Carolina Highway Patrol in 1985 where he was assigned to Troop 5 in Darlington County. He was a graduate of Florence Darlington Technical College and Southern Illinois University. He received his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina and was ABD Ph.D. in Education Administration from University of South Carolina. He retired as Chief of Police at Florence Regional Airport after 20 years. He was an Instructor of Criminal Justice at Florence Darlington Technical College where he loved sharing his love of law enforcement with students. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a Member of Darlington Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Page Michelle Campbell of Darlington. Together they raised two beautiful children; Christian Campbell Chestnut and Kinsley Glenn Chestnut, both of the home and his beloved Yorkie – “Ralph”. He is also survived by brothers: Marvin Benjamin Chestnut, Jr., Al (Carol) Chestnut, Joe (Laura) Chestnut and sisters: Dorothy Chestnut, Annie Chestnut, Jeanette (Michael) Accardo, Martha Chestnut and the late Carl Chestnut.

Willie Lee McCain

Funeral services for Mr. Willie Lee McCain of Darlington were held 11 a.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Mount Tema Holiness Church in Darlington directed by Jordan Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. McCain was born July 14, 1936 in Florence, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Willie and Rozella (Freeman) McCain. He died Thursday, January 11, 2018.

Willie was educated in the Public Schools of Darlington. He was formerly employed for fifty-five years with Mastec in Miami, Florida until his retirement. He was a member of Mt. Tema Holiness Church of Darlington.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Rena McCain of the home; seven children; two step children; five sisters; four brothers; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; one aunt; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Willie is preceded in death by his first wife, Alice McCain; one sister and four brothers.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1622 Greenstreet Road, Darlington.
