Phillip Anderson

Phillip R. Anderson, age 68, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 21st in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following at Florence National Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born June 28, 1949, Phillip is the son of the late Albert Edward Anderson and Fammie Lenoir Tyner. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, worked for 20 years at Nucor, and then worked in construction. He was a very good pool player and he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and shooting guns. Phillip was known to have a heart of gold and always willing to help any and every one. He will be missed by many.

Surviving are his daughters, Angela Lyons and Tonya “Tunkie” Suggs, both of Darlington; his grandchildren, Austin Lyons, Tyler Lyons, both of Tennessee, Sydney Dennis, Quinton Suggs, both of Darlington, Zach Devernay of Michigan, and a great-grandchild on the way; his siblings, Andy (Margo) Anderson, Linda (William) Weatherford, Frankie (the late Redmond) Kelly, and Ronnie Anderson, all of Darlington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice W. Anderson.

Harget D. Gainey

Harget D. Gainey, 81, of Society Hill died on Monday, December 18, 2017. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Welsh Neck Baptist Church. Burial followed in Antioch Cemetery, Directed by Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. The family received friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Welsh Neck Baptist Church.

Mr. Gainey was born in Darlington County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late John M. Gainey and Alma Flora Barefoot Gainey. Mr. Gainey was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church of Society Hill where he served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the choir as well as a deacon.

Surviving are his children, Harget David Gainey, Jr. and his wife Judy, Johnny Gainey and his wife, Denise and Steven Gainey and his wife, Frances, and Theresa Bellamy; his grandchildren, David R. Gainey, Sissy Stengel, Kristin Glover, Eric Campbell, Brandon Gainey, Tony Campbell, and Christina Savoy; and 18 great-grandchildren; and his best friends, Peggy O’Neal of Society Hill and Dixie Belle and Shadow.

Mr. Gainey was preceded in death by his parents listed above and his grandchildren, Daniel R. Gainey and Steven Allen Gainey, Jr.

Robert Broach

Robert Broach, 73, of Warren, Michigan formerly of Darlington died on Friday, December 15, 2017.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. Burial followed in Grove Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home.

Robert was born in Darlington County. He was known as a jokester and loved to make people laugh. Robert was a member of the Moose Lodge Association and he enjoyed traveling, dancing, listening to music, cruising, and playing pool. He was a fun loving fellow who always was willing to lend a helping hand.

Surviving are his wife, Pamela Broach of Michigan; his children, Mary Elizabeth Broach of Michigan, Kristina Michelle Broach of Michigan, and Heather Suzanne Broach Kieffer of Florida; his grandchildren, Trevor, Troy, Miles, Essie, Ruby, Winter, and Deborah; his great grandchildren, Darlin and Cassidy; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Liston Broach, Sr. and Myrtle Broach; and by his siblings, Marion Liston Broach, Jr. Mary Ellen Norwood, William Broach (Infant), Arthur Broach, Jack Broach, Betty Broach Taylor, James Broach (Infant), Jeanette Funderburke, Doris Burbage, Paul Broach, and Ruth Sandifer.

Lucius Hiers

Lucius Hiers, age 92, died December 21, 2017 in Florence, SC after several years of declining health. The family held a private burial Friday, December 22nd at Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

He was born January 6, 1925 in Williston, SC to Bertha Renew Hiers and Robert Gary Hiers. He served in the US Army in Japan shortly after World War II, was a member of the VFW, was a 50-year Mason, and a member of Central Baptist Church in Darlington, SC. He worked in the wholesale meat packing business for over forty years.

He is predeceased by his wife, Ernestine Fanning Hiers and his daughter, Karen Elizabeth Hiers Woodring. He is survived by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ross of Columbia, a nephew, Thomas Gary Hiers, of Sullivans Island, and three grandnephews, John Rainwater of Florence, Thomas Rainwater of Mount Pleasant, and Gary Hiers of Mount Pleasant.
