Tech Stingers rally to beat USC Sumter
The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers split wins in a four-game series on the road with USC Sumter on Saturday and Sunday. USC Sumter prevailed winning 4-2 in both of Saturday’s games. Rallying back, the Tech Stingers won 13-0 and 7-2 on Sunday.
Will Abbott suffered the loss in Game No. 1 on Saturday. He pitched for six innings as he struck out four batters and allowed four earned runs and six hits. Edward Landron, Ceejay Belton, Mark Engel, Alex Stennett and Chase Galloway accounted for the Tech Stingers’ five hits in the 4-2 loss.
The Tech Stingers got on the board first in Saturday’s second matchup; however, USC Sumter tied the game 1-1 in the second inning.
USC Sumter scored two more runs in the sixth, and the Tech Stingers were only able to answer back with a run in the seventh. Boyce Kobleur lost on the mound.
Kobleur pitched for 5.1 innings, striking out five batters and allowing four hits and two earned runs.
Stennett led the Tech Stingers at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two runs.
Patrick Baggett, Landron, Damond Nixon and Billy Flohr had a hit apiece as well.
On Sunday, the Tech Stingers opened with an explosive performance as they accumulated eight hits and beat USC Sumter 13-0.
The Tech Stingers scored 12 runs just in the first three innings.
Timmy Felder won on the mound.
In three innings, Felder allowed zero run as he struck out two batters, walked a batter and allowed only two hits. Sophomore, Michael Elijah was 3-for-3 in the batter’s box with a double, a triple, two RBI and a run.
Hunter Baker was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs. Baggett hit a homerun, while Cameron Dean and Galloway also had a hit.
The momentum kept rolling in Game No. 2 as the Tech Stingers won 7-2.
The Tech Stingers took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and never looked back.
Zac Branham was the winning pitcher.
Branham was on the mound for six innings, striking out eight players, walking a player and allowing four hits and two earned runs.
Stennett was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Landron was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run.
Baker with a double, an RBI and a run and Galloway with a run were both 2-for-3. Elijah singled in the game as well.
With just over a month left to play in the regular season, the Tech Stingers are 15-8.
