Food-delivery app to provide 100 new area jobs
A food-delivery app that has proven to be popular in South Carolina and throughout the South has expanded its service to Florence and Darlington.
Waitr, the restaurant on-demand platform, debuts this week with the official launch set for Feb. 7, the company said in a news release issued Monday.
The Waitr app lets you order from your favorite restaurant … then sends a Waitr driver to deliver it to you for a flat fee of $5.
To meet the anticipated demand, the company plans to hire 100 people in the area.
Waitr will kick off its debut with special free delivery – anytime you use the app through Feb. 17, you can get your food delivered free by using the promo code “FLORENCE” at checkout.
Florence and Darlington become the third major Waitr area in South Carolina following success in Greenville and Columbia.
Overall, the service is available in more than 235 cities in 10 states.
The app’s appeal goes directly to those who don’t want to – or cannot – leave their home or office for their favorite restaurant meal. The flat fee on all orders regardless of order size or the customer’s distance from the restaurant makes Waitr stand out among its competitors.

Waitr will be hosting a launch party at El Agave Mexican Restaurant Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. El Agave is at 147 West Evans St. in Florence.
Waitr is simple to use. After creating an account, you choose a restaurant, browse the fully customizable menu, select your items and tap to submit the order with a credit card.
The app can also be used for carryout orders. There is no charge to consumers for placing these orders.
