“Fired up and ready to go” Bruce declares for Darlington Mayor

City of Darlington Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn Bruce officially declared her candidacy for Mayor at a press conference held Thursday, March 14 on the Public Square.

Surrounded by supporters, Bruce vowed to use her “leadership and professionalism” to try and move the city in a positive direction.

“We are at a time in our city where there is racial divide, name calling, negative outside influences and finger pointing. I stand before you today to offer my leadership and dedication to bridge the gap for a better Darlington,” said Bruce.

“To lead this city, the next Mayor will have to work to gain the confidence of every part of our city,” she said, noting that a leader should “measure and balance the needs of every neighborhood and every person.”

Bruce also promised a clean campaign against incumbent Mayor Gloria C. Hines and any other candidates who might enter the race.

“I will not stand before you to talk about my opponents in any way, form, or fashion. However, I do stand before you to offer my leadership and professionalism, to solicit your vote and your support on the campaign trail. I hope that you will join me in bridging the gap for a better Darlington.”

Filing for the offices of Mayor and City Council will open on Aug. 1 and close on Aug. 15.
