District Announces School Registration Dates

Though students may not be thinking about returning to school, school district staff and many parents are counting the days. As part of the countdown, Darlington County School District has announced the schedule for registration for the 2015-16 school year.

This year parents will be able to complete much of the registration online from their home computers. Parents will still need to visit the schools during the on-site registration times to complete the registration process, show proof of residency and vaccination forms, and to pick up schedules. By completing the information online ahead of time, parents will significantly reduce the time spent at the onsite school registration.

To complete the online/advanced portion of the registration, parents should visit the district website at www.darlington.k12.sc.us and click on the REGISTRATION link on the homepage. When parents click on the registration link, it takes them to a Parent Registration Resource page. Here they will find documents and videos to help them with the online process, along with the hotline number. Parents with questions about the online/advanced registration process can call the online registration hotline at 843-398-2236. The registration hotline will be manned from 9am-4pm Monday through Thursday, through July 30, 2015. The on-line/advanced registration portal will remain open through the on-site registration days. To receive the full benefits of advanced form completion, parents should complete the online/advanced registration portion by 8:00a.m. on the day before they are scheduled to arrive for on-site registration. All on-site registration sessions will be open from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 6:00 p.m. at the home school.

To register for any school, parents/guardians should bring proof of residency containing a street address. Acceptable proof of residency include utility bills (water, gas, electric, or utility), telephone bill (landline only) and tax notices. The following CANNOT be used for proof of residency: cellphone bills, cable bills, or driver’s license. Parents should check with their local health department or physician for current information about immunizations.

This year every seventh grader must show proof he/she received the TDAP vaccination before he/she will be allowed to complete registration. The TDAP vaccine covers Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis, and is a required vaccination in South Carolina for all seventh graders. Children can receive the vaccine at their regular pediatricians’ offices. Also, the Health Departments in Hartsville and Darlington will offer walk-in vaccination clinics August 4th & 5th, the same days as middle school registration. Parents should bring the vaccination records to the schools during registration.
