Darlington Arch Installation

A nifty custom-made arch was installed last week over the pedestrian walkway beside Vaughan Insurance (115 Cashua Street) in downtown Darlington, with the intent to increase usage of the public parking lot off City Lane. The $6,000 arch was paid for by the City of Darlington, planned by the city’s Beautification Board, and crafted by The Iron Gallery of Bishopville. “We had been talking about the arches we’ve seen in other towns, and I just thought something like that would be wonderful down in the Historic District to showcase that walkway to the back parking lot. By fixing up the sidewalk and making it look like more of an entrance, perhaps we can encourage more people to use it,” says Ronda Brown of the Beautification Board. Photo by Samantha Lyles
