Wilson Senior Care holds Veterans Ceremony for nursing home residents

Wilson Senior Care held a Veterans Day Ceremony, at Medford Nursing Center on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at noon, recognizing residents from Medford, Morrell and Oakhaven Nursing Centers that have served in the United States Armed Services. Dennis Lofe, Wilson Senior Care’s President & CEO opened the ceremony followed by Danny Pierce, Chaplain for Hospice Care of SC the master of ceremonies. The Darlington High School ROTC Color Guard made a Presentation of the Colors and the Darlington High School Concert Band performed the National Anthem. In a pinning ceremony, the following veterans were recognized for service: Sergeant Howard Crosland, E5 Army – Vietnam (1966 – 1972); Corporal Iva Deglman, Women Army Core; Sergeant Billie Fryar, Marines; Seaman Heyward Gainey, Navy; Sergeant Phillip Kelley, E5 Army – Vietnam; Claude Oliver, Army; Perry Scott, Navy – Vietnam; Lieutenant Commander Gary Walters, Navy – Vietnam (1962 – 1983). Recognition was given to the families; in memory of the late Sergeant Willie Campbell, E4 Marines – Korean War/Vietnan; and in memory of the late Master Sergeant Norris Davis – Air Force.

Dennis Lofe, Wilson Senior Care’s President & CEO commented, “Wilson Senior Care is thankful to have the opportunity to care for our residents. Members of our community and our employees receive added joy when we get to celebrate the lifetime accomplishments of our residents and be a part of special moments like today.”

After a picnic luncheon, residents were treated to a visit to the Darlington Veterans Memorial.

According to Dianne Dennis with Wilson Senior Care, arrangements have been made for a brick to be donated in honor of each of these veterans on Darlington’s Veterans Memorial.
