Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” Medford

Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” Medford, of Darlington died on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the funeral home and other times at the home of his mother, Joyce Watford, 1627 Rogers Road, Darlington.
Ronnie was an avid NASCAR fan and pulled for his favorite driver Jeff Gordan #24, and enjoyed listening to music. He was a God fearing man, with a gentle soul that loved his family. He will be missed dearly.

Surviving are his wife, Mellinda Hope James of Darlington; his daughter, Rachel Medford of Hartsville; his grandchildren, Addison Rainey and Mallory Pierce; his mother and step father, Joyce and Toby Watford of Darlington; his sisters, Laura Wallace (Sam) of Darlington, and Jennifer Mixon (Ernest) of Darlington; his brother, David Medford (Dawn) of Boling Springs, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Medford.

Raymond Jackson

Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Nathaniel Jackson of Bennettsville were held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Dovesville.

Interment followed in the church cemetery directed by Jordan Funeral Home, Inc. of Darlington.

Survivors include: his wife, Inga Jackson; son Raiontre Jackson; two daughters, Nakiya Jackson and Jasmine Jackson; one brother; Donnie (Linda) Jackson; two grandchildren, Jaylon Lyles and Jamyra Jackson; a stepbrother, James (Shirley) Sanders; four step sisters: Jackie McClain, Shirley Sanders, Valerie Sanders and Pearlie Mae Graham; one aunt, Lillian Jackson; his mother-in-law, Mary Dease; a nephew reared in the home, Richard “Bud” Rumph; one brother-in-law, Charles (Donna) Dease; three sisters-in-law, Tabatha Knox, Corchanda (Jeri) Means, and Celeste (Michael) Ganus; one god-son, Jason Witherspoon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 134 Christian Road, Bennettsville.

John B. Jenkins Sr

John B. Jenkins, of Darlington, South Carolina passed away peacefully on his 79th birthday, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the NMS Healthcare Center, Hyattsville, MD. He was born in Darlington, South Carolina to John and Annie B. Jenkins. He lived most of his life in Wappingers Falls, NY and in Darlington, S.C.

John was a graduate of Mayo High School, and attended South Carolina State University. He was an award-winning Chemist at IBM in Fishkill, N.Y. He was an avid softball player, and enjoyed watching sports with his uncle and cousins.

John is survived by his wife, Emma Jenkins; his three children, Anthony B. Jenkins, Sr. (wife Karen), John B. Jenkins, Jr. (wife Jami), and Joanne Jenkins; his five grandchildren Anthony, Jr. (wife Beeann), Terrence (wife Keisha), Malia, Sydni, and Julian; three great grandchildren Amaria, Tyler, and Savannah; a step daughter, Terri Lyons; and a host of cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Boatwright Funeral Home, 612 South Main Street, Darlington, S.C. 29532.

Michael Gaines

Michael Gaines, Sr., 58, of Darlington died on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. Burial followed in Parker Family Cemetery. The family received friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Michael was born in Richland County. He was the son of Gerald Francis Gaines and the late Carolyn Sturgeon Gaines. Michael was a college instructor. He was a gentle soul and he loved helping others and spending time with his family. He was a loyal Clemson football fan.

Surviving, including his father listed above, are his wife, Cyndy Parker Gaines of Darlington; his children, Michael “Mickey” (Amy) Gaines of Darlington, and Raven Gaines (Butch) Moore of Hartsville; his grandchildren, Paul (Chelsea) Hopkins, Jordan Hopkins, Gabe Hopkins, Rylie Hopkins, Lacey Moore, Richy Moore, and Catherine Moore; his sisters, Karen Gaines and Leslie Gaines both of Sacramento, CA.

Michael was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Gaines; his granddaughter, Isabella Gaines; father-in-law, Rev. Ferry Parker; mother-in-law, Mae Denton Parker; and brother-in-law, Tony Parker.

Jessie Tobias

Jessie Ann Weatherford Tobias, age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Cottonwoods Villa in Bishopville. Graveside services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Swift Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tobias was born January 1, 1934, the daughter of the late Louie and Albertha Tiller Weatherford. She was married to the late David E. Tobias. She worked twenty-eight years in the meat department of Piggly Wiggly, along with her daughter. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and attended First Church of God.

Surviving are her son, Eddie (Patricia Stevens) Tobias, and daughter, Cheryl Tobias, all of Darlington; many nieces, nephews; and a very special cat, Missy.

She was preceded in death by her brothers: Allen, Louie, Howard, Bill, and Carrigan Weatherford; and sisters: Almenia Folendore and Ida Player.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Cottonwood Villa for their care for Mrs. Tobias.

Charles Williams

Charles Williams, 63, of Darlington died on Sunday, February 21, 2016.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. of Chapel of Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. The family received friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Charles was born in Darlington, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Troy Albert Williams, Sr. and Juanita Stegall Williams. Charles enjoyed racing, wrestling, fishing, and playing games on the play station.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Williams of Darlington; his children: Karen and Franklin Howard, Pam Caulder, and Lisa Williams all of Darlington, and Sharon & Charley Inabinet of Orangeburg; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; most favorite grandchild, Amy Marie Downey; sisters, Carolyn (Jack) Williams of Conway, and Jeanette (Jim) Greenberg of Monroe, N.C.; brother, Troy Williams of Darlington; and his aunts and uncle, Verna Stegall, and William and Cynthia Rhodus all of Darlington.

The family would also like to thank the staff of Ronald McNair Nursing Center in Lake City for the wonderful care given to Mr. Williams during his stay.

Doris Smith Jones

Doris Smith Jones, age 91, passed away in her home Thursday, February 26, 2016. Funeral service was held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 28th at Central Baptist Church in Darlington directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Born September 28, 1924, Doris was the daughter of the late Goldie Lambert and James B. Smith. She worked in the lunchroom for Darlington County Schools, and was vice president of the Grace Sunday School Class. Doris was a member of the Good Time Band, the West End Reunion, and enjoyed visiting people in nursing homes. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters: Pat (Ed) Justus of Claudeville, VA, Sandra (Jerry) Bryant of Darlington, Susan (Wayne) Smith of St. Matthews, Janet Hancock, and Cindy Evans; her son, Al Jones, all of Darlington; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special care giver, Bobbie Jean Blackmon.

She was predeceased by her husband, A.C. “Fuzz” Jones, and all of her siblings.

The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Belk Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Sandra Bryant, 516 Gilchrist Rd. and at Mrs. Jones home, 204 Windham Ave. Darlington.

Don D. Bryant

Don D. Bryant, age 72, died Sunday, February 21, 2016 in a local hospital. A funeral service was held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25 in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment in Morven Cemetery, Morven, North Carolina. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24 at the funeral home.

Born in Ansen County, North Carolina he was the son of the late William Dorse and Pauline Ratliff Bryant. Don drove trucks for ABF Freight System, and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, woodworking, and camping.

Surviving is his daughter, Donna B. (Ricky) Munnford of Darlington; two grandchildren, Kamry Harrell and Austin Harrell; a sister, Pauline B. Hunt of Marion, S.C.; his companion, Bonnie Langley; and Bonnie’s daughter, Renee (Dave) Moultrie, and grandchildren, Destiny and Ashley Moultrie, whom he was special to.

Don was preceded in death by a sister, Madie K Tice.
