Two Palmetto Gold Nurses Honored from Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center
Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that Autumn Collins, BSN, RN, CCRN and Kelly Beasley, RN have been selected to receive the 2018 Palmetto Gold Award.
The Palmetto Gold Nurse Recognition and Scholarship Program is a statewide recognition program for nurses from all practice settings in hospitals across South Carolina. Each year the program selects 100 nurses from those nominated across the state to honor at the annual Palmetto Gold Gala event.
“South Carolina has over 45,000 licensed nurses, so being recognized as one of the top 100 is quite an honor,” said Christy B. Moody, Chief Nursing Officer at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. “Autumn and Kelly have both demonstrated excellence in their area of practice and a commitment to the profession, and are highly respected by their peers and other members of our healthcare team.”
Autumn Collins, BSN, RN, CCRN works on the ICU unit at Carolina Pines is a graduate of Francis Marion University and has been a nurse for seven years, six of those at Carolina Pines. She is a Hartsville native and she and her husband Eric attend Mt. Elon Baptist Church. When she has spare time enjoys cooking, crafts, volunteering in the community and spending time with family and friends.
“I always knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field,” said Collins. “I have always loved caring for others. My grandmother was in and out of hospitals with various health problems, and I noticed nurses seemed to have the most interaction with patients and, to me, made the most difference to patients and families during their time of need. My cousin was a nurse, and I admired her confidence and the pride she took in being a nurse. Because of the many nurses I observed throughout my childhood, I decided the greatest impact I could make on life would be made through nursing.”
Collins feels that the nursing career provides daily inspiration. “As a nurse you work with some of the most amazing people that whole heartedly understand you and help you deal with the overwhelming emotions that sometimes come with being a nurse. You are also inspired by the patients that you care for. You see patients who have recently received devastating news, yet they are strong for their families and friends. I have more inspirations today than I could ever imagine.”
Kelly Beasley, RN graduated from nursing school in 1999, and worked as an LNP for many years before becoming a RN.
“I’ve had the opportunity to work in many different areas and specialties: ENT, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, General Medicine, Disabilities, and now currently ICU.” She is a native of Hartsville, and is the eldest daughter of Steve and Lillian Grant. She and her husband Michael attend Emmanuel Baptist Church where she has a “huge interest in local missions, especially Camp Sandhills.” Her hobbies include anything outdoors, travel, spending time with her grandmother Uneeda (Nita) Bass and watching her nieces and nephews in their sporting events.
“I come from a family full of nurses,” said Beasley. “But prior to nursing, I was a Certified Dental Assistant. Nursing is one of my spiritual gifts, and a longing never left me so I pursued it. I have always felt the need to help and encourage others.”
Beasley feels that her faith has led her to this career, and sustains her. “I am a nurse because that’s what I feel lead to do,” she said. “Colossians 3:23 comes to mind when I think about my work ethic, ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.’ With so many great nurses at Carolina Pines, I am humbled and honored to receive this award.”
The recipients will be honored at the 17th Annual Palmetto Gold Gala held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention in Columbia, SC.
