Two Darlington County students graduate from GSSM
McAlister Bullard and Scott Driggers of Darlington County graduated from the SC Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the DeLoach Center in Hartsville.
Bullard, child of Kelly and Robert Bullard, Jr. of Hartsville, and Driggers, child of Karen and Martin Driggers, Jr. of Lamar, will both attend Clemson University.
The 120 students who comprise the GSSM Class of 2018 hail from 34 different South Carolina counties and 76 high schools. Graduates will attend a variety of public and private colleges and universities across the country, including Agnes Scott College, Brown University, Davidson College, MIT, Princeton, Reed College, Rice University, University of Alabama-Huntsville, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Notre Dame, US Naval Academy, University of Virginia, Washington and Lee University, Wellesley College, and Yale University.
Nearly 70 percent of the graduates will remain in state to pursue undergraduate degrees, enrolling in the following SC institutions: Anderson University, Clemson University, College of Charleston, Furman University, Presbyterian College, University of South Carolina, and Wofford College.
In total, the Class of 2018 received $14.6 million in scholarship offers.
