Trinity Collegiate Softball Team tames The Kings Academy 16-1

By Don Gearhart

The Lady Lions from The Kings Academy travelled the short distance to Trinity Collegiate to take on the Lady Titans.  It was the Lady Titans that roared, however, taming the Lady Lions by a 16-1 score.

Trinity raced to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  The sole senior on the team, Chelsea Ghoens, led off with a bunt single.  Reagan Rowsey’s hot grounder was misplayed by the third baseman to put two runners aboard.  Laura Beth Brown wasted little time, clearing the bases with a ringing double.  Sarah Watkins got on base when her grounder was misplayed at first base and Brown scampered home with the third run.  Allie Bouchard was hit by a pitch before Ella Gray singled to bring home Watkins.  Emma Clark walked to load the bases and then two runs scored on consecutive wild pitches.  With nobody out still, Maddie Scott walked and Ghoens fielder’s choice grounder to second was misplayed allowing Clark to score.

TKA scored their lone run in the second inning.  A walk, an error, and a wild pitch resulted in the Lions denting the scoreboard.  Trinity added six more runs in their half of the second.  Brown got aboard on an error.  Watkins then tripled over the left fielder’s head.  Bouchard singled to bring home Watkins.  Consecutive walks to Gray and Clark loaded the bases.  Scott’s bloop hit fell in to bring Bouchard home and keep the bases full.  Eliza Seagars picked up an RBI when she got hit by a pitch.  Ghoens then walked to earn an RBI.  Scott scored the sixth run when Brown’s fly ball to right was dropped.

Needing three runs to end the game via the 15-run differential after three innings, TKA got two quick outs.  But Gray walked and stole second base. Clark followed with a base hit.  Both runners scored when Scott’s grounder was misplayed at first base.  Seagars and Ghoens both walked to load the bases.  The deciding run scored on a wild pitch.

Scott was the winning pitcher tossing a one run, one hit in two innings.  Rowsey pitched the first inning allowing just one hit.

The Lady Titans only had even hits during the game but benefited from seven walks, two hit-by-pitch, and four errors on the part of the Lady Lions.
