On Wednesday, September 21st students at Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School participated in the second annual Middle School Community Service Day. Service Day gives middle school students the opportunity to be involved in the community by working with various charities and service groups.

Ed Hoffman, Head of School, said, “It is never too early to instill the importance of volunteerism. The message of giving and serving others is vital in the world today.”

The day started with guest speaker and 2003 Trinity Collegiate School graduate, Jon Flowers, of Darlington County First Steps. The students then divided into teams and volunteered at the following organizations: Carolina’s Kids, Inc. in Hartsville, Hartsville Soup Kitchen, Bethea Baptist Retirement Community in Darlington, The Lord Cares in Darlington, Harvest Hope Food Bank in Florence, McLeod’s Children’s Hospital in Florence, The Manna House in Florence, The Florence Area Humane Society, Lighthouse Ministries in Florence, and House of Hope (Women’s Facility and Homeless Shelter) in Florence. The day concluded with service work done on the Trinity-Byrnes campus.

“Our theme for the 2016-17 school year is, ‘Always be humble and kind,’ which is an extension of The Golden Rule. In keeping with that mode of thinking, Middle School Community Service Day is all about encouraging our TBCS students to become actively involved in serving others as an act of gratitude for their many blessings,” said Associate Head of School, Kelley Byrd.

In addition to academic credit requirements, Trinity-Byrnes students are required to participate in school and community service in order to be promoted to the next grade level. The purpose is for students to become more involved, serve others, and recognize the needs in our local community.
“Our students are experiencing a global view of becoming socially responsible in order to help those in need.” –Ed Hoffman, Head of School
