The City of Hartsville marked Arbor Day on December 5, 2025, with the ceremonial planting of an Overcup Oak at The Vista behind the DeLoach Center. Assisted by the Public Services Department, city staff selected the native South Carolina species for its resilience and long lifespan, ensuring it will thrive for generations.
Designated as a Liberty Tree, the Overcup Oak was planted to honor the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, which will be celebrated on July 4, 2026. City officials noted that the tree symbolizes both Hartsville’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the nation’s enduring pursuit of freedom.
