In a dramatic incident that put several local schools on lockdown, three men now face attempted murder charges after allegedly firing at police officers following a chase in Hartsville on Monday afternoon.
Brandon Devon Davis, 19, of Florence; Ty’Sean Coe, 18, of Hartsville; and Miyon Joshua Mungo, 20, also of Hartsville, were booked into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center where they remain without bond as of Tuesday, according to police reports obtained by the News & Press.
The incident began just before 2 p.m. Monday when police received multiple reports of gunshots in the area of Society Avenue and I Street. Responding officers were informed by dispatch that a white Honda was involved in the shooting.
Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description near W. Carolina Avenue and 6th Street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the driver fled down Green Street before crashing into a tree behind a residence.
According to Hartsville police, the suspects opened fire at officers after the crash. One suspect was immediately apprehended at the scene, while the other two fled on foot. Following a search of the surrounding area, the remaining suspects were captured near a Dollar General store on W. Carolina Avenue. Police reportedly recovered two firearms from the scene.
The incident prompted precautionary lockdowns at five local schools: Hartsville High School, Hartsville Middle School, Carolina Elementary School, Thornwell Elementary School, and Bay Road Elementary School, according to the Darlington County School District. The lockdowns lasted nearly two hours.
All three suspects face attempted murder charges and remained in custody without bond as of late Tuesday morning.
