Science and Mathematics Governor’s School welcomes two Darlington County Students

Hartsville, SC – Two students from Darlington County have been accepted to the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) in Hartsville. They join students from across South Carolina to form the Class of 2018.
GSSM students moved onto campus in mid-August and classes started August 16. This year, the School celebrates its largest student body since its inception in 1988, with 282 students representing 138 high schools and 37 counties.
• Scott Driggers, child of Karen and Martin S. Driggers, Jr. of Darlington, was homeschooled before transferring to GSSM.
• McAlister Bullard, child of Kelly and Dr. Robert Bullard, Jr. of Darlington, transferred to GSSM from Mayo High School.
GSSM is a public, residential high school for academically talented juniors and seniors. It offers unique, college-level courses and a hands-on curriculum with a special focus on science, technology, engineering, math and research, along with concentrations in economics and entrepreneurship, as well as a full array of humanities courses.
One of 12 specialized science and math programs in the country, the School has been nationally recognized for its overall excellence, strong mix of intellectual challenges and dedicated teachers, as well as its rigorous mentored scientific and economic research program.
