People to People celebrate Dr. King

The People to People of Hartsville hosted its Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Award Service on Monday, January 20, at the Historic Butler Heritage Foundation Gym. The event, brimming with love and excitement, attracted over 300 attendees who gathered to honor the legacy of Dr. King and recognize community service. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority of Hartsville served as hostesses for the event and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority provided a delicious lunch.
Barbara Carraway, President of People to People, extended a warm welcome to the audience, setting the tone for an inspiring evening. Former State Senator Maggie Glover delivered the keynote address, urging everyone to honor Dr. King’s legacy daily. “Let’s honor Dr. King every day,” she emphasized.
The theme of the event, “We’ve Come This Far By Faith,” resonated throughout the program as ten individuals and organizations were celebrated for their exceptional contributions to the community. Honorees included the Sonoco Men’s Club, J. Todd Hardee, Mrs. Davita Malloy, Bill and Loretta Robinson, Ms. Berdie Cherry, Hines Funeral Home, Mrs. Dolly Hines, Carolyn Cranford Johnson, Maceo, and Pastor Dominique McPhail.
The event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors, including Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Davis Funeral Home, Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee, Duke Energy, Humphrey Coker Cotton Gin, Representative Cody Mitchell (District #65), and Representative Jason Luck (District #54). Additional thanks were extended to the Butler Heritage Foundation, Coker Black Alumni Network, Chi Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Maggie W. Glover, Anisha Green, Rilee Walker, the Hartsville Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Former South Carolina House Representative Patricia Henegan, the Jerusalem Baptist Church Men’s Ensemble, Jim n’ I, Yanestra Graham, Lunella Williams, Wise Production, Carl Days, Pastor J.J. Clark, Minister Randolph Thomas, Stronger With The Word Ministry, and the City of Hartsville.
Vendors also contributed to the vibrant atmosphere, offering an array of goods and services. Participants included the League of Women Voters, Gospel in the Park Series, the Democratic Women’s Council, Cecil Williams Museum, Walter Cook Art, Dr. Chris Davis’s Amazing Books, Mary Benjamin, Hartsville High Alumni, and Aleyah Dickey.
The heartfelt gathering concluded with expressions of gratitude to all who attended and contributed to its success. The community came together to celebrate Dr. King’s enduring legacy, united in a shared vision of faith, service, and progress.
