PDRTA ‘DART’ service to run on Saturdays

The weekday DART bus that transports people around Darlington all day will begin operating for four hours each Saturday. The Saturday hours will be from 8 a.m. until noon with service beginning Nov. 3.

The bus will operate on the same route as it does during the week with the exception of service to McLeod Wilson.

The Saturday service was made possible by Darlington City Council after listening to information provided by PDRTA Executive Director Chuck MacNeil and also hearing from citizens who advocated for the bus to run on Saturdays.

Mayor Gloria Hines supported the addition of Saturday bus service. “Talking to the citizens, especially elderly residents at Washington Square Apartments, they are extremely excited to have it run on Saturday. I’m happy the city could provide the service. This is a great thing for Darlington to support its citizens with this service,” Hines said. “The trial period will run through June 30, and I hope we can continue this service if people ride the bus.”

MacNeil noted: “The riders clearly desired the ability to get around Darlington on Saturday. They use the bus during the week for many reasons and being able to get to stores on the weekend was something they spoke strongly about.”

PDRTA also operates a daily bus from Darlington to Florence-Darlington Technical College three times each weekday.

Route and schedule information are available by calling the PDRTA at 665-2227, ext. 2 or by visiting pdrta.org.
