One dead after crash

One person is dead after a fatal crash in Darlington County on Saturday morning, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol reports.

The crash occurred on Secondary 49 near Rogers Road, 2 miles south of Darlington, at approximately 6:20 a.m., Lance Cpl. Lena Butler said.

A 2014 Mercedes Benz 350, with only one person on board, was traveling North on Secondary 49 while a 2004 Nissan Sentra, also with only one occupant, was traveling South on Secondary 49. The Mercedes crossed the center line and hit the Nissan, injuring the driver of the Sentra. The Nissan driver was transported by EMS to McLeod Regional Medical Center and, later, succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the Mercedes was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
