Massachusetts woman blames Raceway, former Pres. for 2022 collision

A Massachusetts woman has filed a lawsuit against Darlington Raceway and its former president, accusing them of negligence. The lawsuit, submitted on Friday in Darlington County Common Pleas Court by Jessica Wilde’s attorneys, claims that the raceway continued to serve alcohol to the driver involved in a crash which occurred after both drivers left the Raceway following the 2022 Cook Out Southern 500 on September 4.
The complaint states that Wilde was involved in a crash with Indiana resident Ryan Brandenburg shortly before 11:15 p.m. on Johnny Bruce Road. The lawsuit also alleges that former Raceway President Kerry Tharp contributed to the unsafe sale of alcohol at the venue by failing to provide adequate supervision or warnings regarding alcohol sales.
The lawsuit does not specify the extent of Wilde’s injuries but seeks financial compensation for damages, including “physical pain” and “suffering.”
Darlington Raceway does not comment on pending litigation.
