After a property owner shot at a suspected thief and he ran into some woods, Darlington County sheriff’s deputies used bloodhounds to find the man, officials said.
Brandon James Moody was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a pistol by persons unlawfully, and petit larceny, the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
On Feb. 15, deputies responded to a location on North Governor Williams Highway, where a man said he found someone trying to steal scrap metal from his property. He said he held the alleged thief at gunpoint. Somehow, the property owner said, the suspect struck him with his vehicle and the property owner fired a shot, hitting the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect ran into nearby woods.
The Sheriff’s Office bloodhound team, along with the Sheriff’s Office SIRT Team, tracked the man and located him. Moody was being held in the county jail.
