Local Sorority gives scholarships

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Omicron Zeta Omega Chapter awarded scholarships to three graduates in the class of 2024. It has been a tradition of the chapter to offer scholarships to deserving college-bound seniors in neighboring counties. The scholarships are open to high school seniors attending college (technical, two-year/junior, or four-year). Given the prestigious history of the sorority and the standards upon which the sorority was founded, the Omicron Zeta Omega Chapter selected the recipients based on academic achievement, community service, citizenship, character, and leadership.

The recipients of the Omicron Zeta Omega Chapter’s scholarship and their respective high schools are:

Kinsey Mangum of Central High School, Jazlyn McClendon of Cheraw High and Tae’Kwon Sellers of Marlboro County High School.

Kinsey Mangum is the daughter of Kimberly Mangum. She will attend Clemson University and major in Clinical Psychology. Jazlyn McLendon is the daughter of Barry and Melissa McLendon. She will attend the University of South Carolina and major in Pediatric Cardiology. Tae’kwon Sellers is the son of June Sellers. He will attend USC-Upstate and major in nursing.

Camalah Bittle is the chapter president. The scholarship committee members are Ova Brown-Gillespie (chairperson), Felicia Leak, Jamila H. Hudley, Victoria Lowery, and Brionna Nivens.
