Local nonprofits to participate in Big Give Pee Dee
Several Darlington County nonprofits are participating in Big Give Pee Dee, a day of local online giving slated for May 3. Presented by Eastern Carolina Community Foundation in conjunction with Give Local America, Big Give strengthens the foundation of our communities through a 24-hour event that provides critical funding for charities working to make the Pee Dee a better place to live.
In 2015, Big Give raised more than $71,000 for local nonprofits. With the help of Darlington County residents, Big Give 2016 hopes to raise even more funds to keep local nonprofits afloat during the summer months and help them achieve specific goals that improve quality of life in the Pee Dee.
Darlington County-based nonprofits participating in Big Give are:
• CareFIRST Carolina Foundation
• Carolina’s Kids Inc.
• Darlington County Education Foundation
• Darlington County First Steps
• Darlington County Habitat for Humanity
• Darlington County Humane Society & Rescue
• House of Refuge Outreach Ministry
• South Carolina African American Heritage Foundation
To support your favorite charity/charities, visit biggivepeedee.org beginning at midnight May 3 and make a secure online donation. Monetary prizes will also be awarded to participating nonprofits at random and to those meeting specific fundraising milestones. The public is invited to track the progress of their chosen charities throughout the 24-hour giving day cycle by watching the leaderboard on the website.
With a minimum donation of just $25, almost everyone in the community can be a philanthropist through Big Give. “A lot of people think you have to be rich to give back, but even the smallest donation can make a big difference,” said Sarah Shelley, Eastern Carolina Community Foundation executive director. “Every dollar really does count for a community in need.”
